The Ministry of Culture, through the program of Historic Jeddah – UNESCO World Heritage Site (JHD), has a stated vision to ‘elevate’ Al Balad to the status of a world-class urban center, one which will become the capital of Red Sea Heritage and Culture. This will involve the repositioning of this historic district as the nexus of a cultural network, whilst supporting Jeddah’s historic role as the gateway to the holy pilgrimage sites of Mecca and Medina.
